This two-day course is based at Barts Health Education Academy at The Royal London Hospital.
The course is accredited by the Society of British Neurological Surgeons
The course is aimed at junior neurosurgery trainees or those senior medical students and junior doctors aiming to become neurosurgeons.
Lunch will be provided on both days
The course will cover:
Patient positioning, operative ergonomics, various craniotomies on a ROWENA head, EVD insertion, ICP bolt insertion, Stealth Station Navigation system set-up, basics of haemostasis, dural opening and closure, bone flap fixation.
Limited places: first come – first served.

Patient positioning (Horseshoe, pins, prone, prone in pins, park bench)
Coffee
Optimum skin inscisions, surface anatomy, how to use a high speed drill/ craniotome/ perforator
Lunch
ICP bolt insertion and evaluation
EVD insertion and troubleshooting
The anatomy of flaps
CLOSE AND COURSE DINNER (TBC)
Day 2

Trauma flaps and box flaps
Coffee
Bicoronal flap, posterior fossa craniectomy, controlling sinus bleeds
Lunch
Dural closure, sealants and haemostasis
How to secure a bone flap
How to tunnel and secure a drain
